Helping Kids Who Feel Anxious About Math
By the Duck Math team ·

Many children feel nervous about math, especially when timed or compared with others. Small changes at home can make practice feel safer.
Part of our complete guide.
Keep it short and low pressure
- Five to ten minutes beats a long session.
- Choose games where the first questions are easy so a child starts with a win.
- Turn timers off or pick untimed practice where possible, and praise accuracy before speed.
Talk about mistakes
Say that mistakes are how the brain learns. Ask, "What did you try?" before showing the correct answer.
Celebrate effort and progress
Notice improvement: "You went from 8 to 12 today." Streaks and missions can help, as long as a missed day is treated as no big deal.
When to get more help
If worry about math is intense or affects sleep or mood, talk to your child's teacher or doctor. This article is general advice, not medical advice.
