Tap any square to highlight its row and column.

How to use it

  1. Tap any square to see its fact and highlight the row and column that make it.
  2. Switch on Quiz mode to hide the products. Tap a square to reveal one answer at a time.
  3. Press Print chart for a clean copy without the page menus.

How it works

A multiplication chart lists every product from 1 × 1 to 12 × 12. Reading across row 7 and down column 8 meets at 56, so 7 × 8 = 56. Because multiplication is commutative, 7 × 8 and 8 × 7 are the same square, so you only have to learn about half the grid.

Patterns help: the 5s end in 0 or 5, the digits of the 9s add up to 9 (up to 9 × 10), and the diagonal holds the square numbers 1, 4, 9, 16, 25 and so on.

Questions

How many facts are on the chart?

There are 144 squares, but because a × b equals b × a only 78 are different facts. The 1s and 10s are easy, which leaves a much smaller set to memorise.

Is quiz mode the best way to practise?

It is a good start. After that, try the Times Tables Duck Race game, where answers are timed.
